Corrupt Police in Bali

If you pulled over for riding a scooter in Bali, randomly or at police check points, they will 99% of the time ask you for your driver’s license.

I got pulled over 3 times, and didn’t have an international driver’s license. But luckily, I got away with it 3 times in a row. I happen negotiate my way around it.

In one instance, my friend who was riding on another bike on the same journey with me got unlucky and didn’t have an international license too. He got booked for a 500,000 rupiah fine (equivalent to $40 USD) and they issue you an international drivers licence (see below and it looks very legitimate) on the spot.


Best advice go get an international driver's license from the country you reside and you can use it in other countries too.

Opening a Portugal bank account remotely (easy step by step)

Other than using the services of bordr.io (cost 350 Euros to open at the time of writing), the Portuguese bank account I found on the internet that you can open outside of Portugal is Banco Atlantico Europa . When you navigate to "Open Account" the following screens asks you to download its app on Android or Apple app stores. This is what the app looks like in the Android app store. Once you open the app, the following screens will appear and it states the relevant documents you need to upload via the app either from photos or pdfs. You will need to follow the steps to create a User ID, enter your email address, your cellphone number (even if its a non-Portuguese number), your residential address (in your country), your work profession (job title and employer name) and your NIF. I've always believed in doing things by myself as much as possible and trying to lower the costs of doing each activity by understanding the entire process.
