Pura Lempuyang (or Lempuyang Temple), Karangasem, Eastern Bali

One of the most amazing eye catching photos you may have seen so many tourists take of Bali are the entrance gates into the Lempuyang Temple (See Caption 1).

The Pura Lempuyang, Pura meaning Temple, is a sacred temple with shrines located in eastern Bali. Literally there are at least thousand steps to get the top with stunning views of the landscape of Bali. The temple is generally not very crowded, as the majority of visitors to Bali stay around the western parts of the island (eg. Kuta, Seminyak, and Canggu). The eastern parts of Bali generally attract the more adventurous types who wish to visit less populated areas with far fewer nightlife such as bars and nightclubs.

A group of friends and I did a road trip to the eastern parts of Bali and the Pura Lempuyang was definitely a place worth visiting. Entrance cost was just a generous donation for the borrowing a sarong (skirt) to cover your legs before entering the temple (general donations amount around 10,000 to 20,000 rupiah or less than $2 USD).
