Pura Lempuyang (or Lempuyang Temple), Karangasem, Eastern Bali

Image
One of the most amazing eye catching photos you may have seen so many tourists take of Bali are the entrance gates into the Lempuyang Temple (See Caption 1 ). The Pura Lempuyang, Pura meaning Temple, is a sacred temple with shrines located in eastern Bali. Literally there are at least thousand steps to get the top with stunning views of the landscape of Bali. The temple is generally not very crowded, as the majority of visitors to Bali stay around the western parts of the island (eg. Kuta, Seminyak, and Canggu). The eastern parts of Bali generally attract the more adventurous types who wish to visit less populated areas with far fewer nightlife such as bars and nightclubs. A group of friends and I did a road trip to the eastern parts of Bali and the Pura Lempuyang was definitely a place worth visiting. Entrance cost was just a generous donation for the borrowing a sarong (skirt) to cover your legs before entering the temple (general donations amount around 10,000 to 20,000 rupiah o

Corrupt Police in Bali

If you pulled over for riding a scooter in Bali, randomly or at police check points, they will 99% of the time ask you for your driver’s license. I got pulled over 3 times, and didn’t have an international driver’s license. But luckily, I got away with it 3 times in a row. I happen negotiate my way around it. In one instance, my friend who was riding on another bike on the same journey with me got unlucky and didn’t have an international license too. He got booked for a 500,000 rupiah fine (equivalent to $40 USD) and they issue you an international drivers licence (see below and it looks very legitimate) on the spot. Best advice go get an international driver's license from the country you reside and you can use it in other countries too. Bali is one big island right? Kinda! Bali is in fact a province and the main island called Bali island as well. There are some smaller neighbouring islands, which mainly include the 3 bigger islands  Nusa Penida , Nusa Lembongan , and Nusa Ceningan. The advantage about main island of Bali is every location differs in atmosphere vastly and depending on what your preference is, you could stay in one area more than others. The 5 main areas where most tourists love visiting and stay at are: Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, and Nusa Dua. Depending on how long your trip in Bali will be, you can work your way around it to get the most enjoyable time in Bali. For example, if you are visiting Bali for a short trip (several days) just to relax, then you would prefer to stay in one location. If you plan to stay for longer, then its preferable to visit all the main areas and others if you have time. Here are the 5 main areas where most people stay and what the main atmosphere there is: K
