Best way to get from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh in Cambodia

The most cost effective way to get to Phnom Penh from Siem Reap is by coach (bus), however the trip by road takes approx. 5 and a half hours, compared with flying which takes about 1 hour.

You must also consider if you were to fly would be the time to take to get to the airport so all up should be about 2 hours (about 30 minutes each way to the respective airports, not taking into account time going through airport security checks).

Costs (prices in 2017):
Coach: $15 USD for 5.5 hours
Plane: ~$34 USD for around 2 hours

The coach, I took was quite good using the Giant ibis Transport Company. I paid for the ticket one day before I was planning to depart Siem Reap at my hotel. A transport mini-bus will pick you with your luggage up in the morning (designated time) at your hotel and take you to the Giant ibis Bus Terminal in Siem Reap where more people join from other hotels. A bigger coach departs the terminal once everyone has arrived.

The service provided by the company is quite good for the cost, as the coach is fully air-conditioned and has Wi-Fi. There is even power point sockets available around your seats to charge your electronic devices.

The staff aboard the coach provides small breakfast snacks (such as a croissant) and a bottle of water. I couldn't believe all that for $15 USD.

On arrival at Phnom Penh will depart at the Giant ibis Bus Terminal: 7E0, Road 106, Sangkat Doun Penh, Khan Doun Penh.
